Background

In a report on Montenegro adopted in October 2023, Parliament commended Montenegro’s long-standing commitment to EU integration, underpinned by a high level of public support, and reiterated Parliament’s support for the country’s efforts to meet EU accession conditions. MEPs encouraged Montenegro to continue its progress, particularly in the area of the rule of law, and to begin to close negotiating chapters again.

Montenegro applied for EU membership in 2008, and started accession negotiations in 2012. So far, 33 of 35 negotiation chapters have been opened.

The meeting is organised in association with the Delegation to the EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee.
