Regional security in the Middle East: exchange of views with Adel Al Jubeir

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Relations Adel Al Jubeir will address MEPs in the Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday evening at 17.45

His intervention will be followed by an exchange of views with Members of the Committee. The discussions are expected to focus on the latest political developments in the Middle East, sparked by increased tensions between Iran and the US, as well as other current challenges in the Region.
Mr Al-Jubeir, a career diplomat, assumed his current office in December 2018 and has previously served as his country’s foreign minister and ambassador to the United States.

More information on the EU’s relations with Saudi Arabia can be found here (European External Action Service).

Concerns about the human rights situation

MEPs have, in the past, been deeply critical about the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia and adopted several resolutions on the matter. Following the killing of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the European Parliament also reiterated its previous calls for an EU-wide arms embargo on the country.

WHEN: Tuesday 21 January, 17.45 – 18.30 CET.

WHERE: European Parliament’s Antall building, room 2Q2.
