Neweurope: Unity will turn EU into a global actor, writes McAllister in ‘Our World’
Multilateralism should be at the center of the EU’s foreign and security policy in order to ensure peace and security across the globe, said David McAllister in his article for Our World magazine.
McAllister, Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, highlighted that the way for the EU to effectively endorse multilateralism is through becoming a credible global actor and strengthening its shared values and goals with strategic partners.
‘‘It is important that the EU institutions and Member States stand united behind a common and strong EU-level foreign policy that gives the EU more credibility,’’ he stressed.
Furthermore, McAllister acknowledged the need for the EU to further advance its relations with its important alliances, notably the US and China, while explaining why it is crucial for the bloc to further develop its security and defence capabilities.
