David McAllister MEP: the European Parliament will not observe upcoming parliamentary elections in Tunisia

“Parliamentary elections will take place in Tunisia on 17 December 2022. The European Parliament will not observe this electoral process, and consequently will comment neither on the process nor on the results. No individual Member of the European Parliament has received a mandate to observe or comment on this electoral process on Parliament’s behalf.

Should any Member of the European Parliament decide to observe these elections, she/he would do so on her/his own initiative and should under no circumstances through any statement or action, associate her/his participation with the European Parliament.

The Democracy Support and Election Coordination Group (DEG) has been following the recent political and socioeconomic developments in Tunisia. These include the ruling of the African Court of Human and People’s Rights in relation to the African Charter of Human and Peoples‘ Rights and the respect of civil and political rights in the country, as well as the Urgent Opinion of the Venice Commission on the constitutional and legislative framework on the referendum and elections announcements.”
