David McAllister MEP co-chairs meeting with EPP Foreign Affairs Ministers meeting ahead of Council

EPP Foreign Affairs Ministers, co-chaired by Italian Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs, EPP Vice-President, Antonio TAJANI and EPP Vice-President and Chair of the EP AFET Committee, David McALLISTER MEP met this morning to discuss the FAC agenda. European Commission Vice-President Margaritis SCHINAS reported on the current European challenges and work of the Commission.

Ministers thanked former Co-Chair Simon COVENEY, and warmly welcomed Antonio TAJANI into his new leading position in the EPP ministerial format.

The discussion focused on the Russian war of aggression and the current negotiations on sending tanks to Ukraine.

On Iran, the ministers discussed the continuous repression of protests, the intolerable use of the death penalty, and possible new sanctions against individuals. 

EPP ministers underlined that more attention needs to be granted to the Western Balkans, the EU’s closest partners.
