AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Sunday reaffirmed Jordanian-European ties in the political, economic and parliamentary fields.

Fayez remarks came during his meeting with Chairman of the EU parliament’s foreign affairs committee David McAllister, who is currently on a visit to the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Fayez presented the region’s latest developments and the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan, which hosts some 1.5 million Syrian refugees, stressing that regional security and stability are linked to a fair solution to the Palestinian cause on the basis of the two-state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

During the meeting, the Senate president expressed appreciation to the EU’s support for the Kingdom, calling for increasing its economic and financial assistance to Jordan, which is experiencing economic, social and security challenges as a result of events in neighbouring countries and influxes of refugees.

Also on Sunday, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with McAllister over means to enhance Jordanian-European partnership and increase economic and development cooperation between the two sides.

Discussions during the meeting also went over the latest regional developments and Jordanian-European coordination, which seeks to overcome regional challenges, to realise the joint goal of enhancing security and stability, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi praised the EU’s stances that support the Kingdom and its development process, highlighting the importance of the EU role in the Region.

For his part, McAllister expressed his appreciation for Jordan and its moderate policies, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, which aim to achieve security and stability in the region and enhance cooperation with Europe.
