MEPs to discuss the German Presidency’s priorities with ministers

Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee MEPs will discuss the priorities of the German Presidency with Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer next week.

Heiko Maas is a member of Germany’s Social Democratic Party and has served as the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs since March 2018. He is expected to outline the foreign policy strategy and main goals of the German Presidency in this area during the next six months in a meeting with Foreign Affairs Committee MEPs on Monday, 13 July, at 16.45 CET, during which Mr Maas will be physically present in Brussels.

The following day, on Tuesday 14 July at 12.45 CET, MEPs in the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Subcommittee on Security and Defence will exchange views with German Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, who will also brief Members of the Presidency’s priorities in this field. Ms Kramp-Karrenbauer, a member of the Christian Democratic Union, assumed her current office in July 2019, when she replaced the current President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen as German Federal Minister of Defence. She will participate in the meeting remotely.

Both meetings will be broadcast live on the European Parliament’s website and you can watch them here (meeting with Heiko Maas) and here (meeting with Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer).
