Latin America: Members to exchange views with Bolivian Foreign Affairs Minister Karen Longaric Rodríguez

Bolivian Foreign Affairs Minister Karen Longaric Rodríguez will join MEPs in the Foreign Affairs Committee for a debate on Thursday afternoon at 17.45 CET.

Ms Longaric Rodríguez has served as her country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs since November 2019, as part of the government led by Jeanine Áñez, in place since the forced resignation of Evo Morales and the annulment of the general elections held in October 2019.

She is expected to discuss the current political situation in Bolivia with a view to the upcoming general elections that have been set for 18 October, following a second postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 8 September, EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell announced that the EU will deploy a reinforced Election Expert Mission to Bolivia, in line with the European Union’s long-standing commitment to support peaceful, credible, inclusive and transparent elections.

This technical mission will be composed of 5-6 experts who will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the electoral process.
