David McAllister MEP: On EU-Switzerland negotiations (8 July 2024)

The negotiations between Switzerland and the EU on the package started on 18 March 2024 and are intense. Over 60 meetings in the various tracks have already taken place. In some tracks progress is being made, while in others the positions are still very divergent. Negotiations continue on the basis of the Common Understanding with the same intensity in order to reach common ground in all tracks.

The EU side is fully committed to the negotiations. There have been more than 60 meetings so far across all areas. Good progress has been made in a number of areas, such as institutional issues and state aid. The aim of the EU is to agree a package reflecting the Common Understanding and the mandate given to the Commission by the Council.
