Committee Chairs call for solidarity with third countries in COVID-19 crisis

Senior MEPs express their support for the Commission’s efforts to address the unprecedented crisis caused by the spread of the coronavirus/COVID-19 and ask for international cooperation.

On 24 March, the Chairs of European Parliament Committees on Foreign Affairs, David McAllister, Development, Tomas Tobé and Budget, Johan Van Overtveldt, wrote a letter to Josep Borrell, High Representative of the Union, Jutta Urpilainen, Commissioner for International Partnerships, Olivér Várhelyi, Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Janez Lenarčič, Commissioner for Crisis Management and Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for Budget and Administration, to express support for the Commission’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 crisis.

MEPs emphasised the importance of showing solidarity with affected countries in the EU’s immediate neighbourhood and other third countries, notably through measures aimed at enhancing capacities of public health systems, mitigating the overall socio-economic impact, and the provision of humanitarian aid.
